Case History: 20 year old female presented at my clinic frustrated because her primary provider and also her GYN told her that her labs and abdomen CT scan were "normal". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She was relief by the fact that everything was "normal", but yet, how come she doesn't FEEL "normal"? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I always remind my patients that they know their body best and that they are the smartest doctor in the room!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A thorough lab work up including a comprehensive thyroid panel was ordered for this patient at my clinic.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of course, most of her lab ranges were in the "normal" range. However, they were NOT "optimal".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In functional medicine, we look at "optimal" ranges over "normal" ranges, thus, LISTENING to your symptoms is crucial!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By using this functional perspective it helps us identify thyroid imbalances and find them earlier, giving us a chance to correct the root cause of your symptoms and perhaps at more effective reversal of the thyroid disease process. Because most thyroid disease is auto-immune, we also screen by looking for antibodies that attack the thyroid gland so that we can intervene before more damage is done.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Conclusion: This particular patient's TPOs (thyroid peroxidase antibodies) were 6327H ! This might be the ROOT CAUSE of her hormonal and gut symptoms! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
FYI: Normal Range should be < 60!!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Her symptoms were NOT all in her head!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Over and over again, I often hear my patients that Over and over again, I often hear my patients that have been on a weight loss program somehow have successfully lose the weight, but once when deviated from the carb or caloric restriction, they gain it right back. This can be frustrating and also depressing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why does this happen? Because your thyroid gland is often overlooked!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thyroid hormones act on almost every kind of cell in your body to increase cellular activity or metabolism. If there is too much or too little thyroid hormone, the metabolism of your entire body is impacted.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The thyroid gland produces Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones play a significant role in your metabolism and in energy regulation in the body. T4 and T3 are made in the thyroid gland. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
T4 is the INACTIVE form of thyroid and T3 is the ACTIVE form of thyroid. T4 is about four times greater than T3. However, T3 is more potent than T4. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
T4 - INACTIVE form of thyroid needs to convert to T3 - ACTIVE form of thyroid in your gut and liver. If your gut microbiome is a mess, conversion does not occur. If your liver does not make enough glutathione (mother of antioxidants and detoxifier) conversion also does not occur. Thus, the thyroid becomes "slugglish" and so is your scale 😩⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Having a positive mindset helps your coping mechanism when dealing with stress. It can also help to improve your health, lessen the feelings of overwhelmed, lower feelings of depression, regain vitality and even increase lifespan! 
Having a positive mindset doesn’t mean you ignore life’s unpleasant situations. Positive mindset means you retrain your mind to look at things from a different prospective but in a positive and productive way. 
I, myself sometimes fall into the cycle of feeling overwhelmed. How do I “snap” out of it? 
By these 5 Steps:
1. Keep a Gratitude Journal 📔 - daily, write 5 positive things that happened. 
2. Identify areas that you need to change - delete negative self talk throughout the day.
3. Smile more - yes, we can see your smile 😀 under your mask 😷 
4. Surround yourself with positive people. Negative people may increase your stress level and are draining. Take notice, positive people vibrates on a different frequency, they attract more luck 🍀 and opportunities 😉 Positive people attract a positive tribe. 
5. Follow a healthy lifestyle. Fuel ⛽️ your mind and body 💪🏻 with the right nutrients. Add movement into your daily routine 🏃🏻‍♀️🏋🏻‍♂️🚴🏻‍♀️🙃🙂
